Malta...a gem in the Mediterranean

Mediterranean Film Studios welcome you to Malta. Brilliant blue seas, sun-drenched beaches and harbours, cosmopolitan cities next to pre-historic temples - Malta is indeed a magical place.

The three islands of Malta are located 60 miles or 100 km due south of Sicily. Close enough to Europe to keep pace with social, economic and technological trends yet far enough to maintain its own cultural identity. Gozo is the most Northenly of the island chain. The small island of Comino is immediately to the South. The largest and most Southerly of the three is the island of Malta itself. Here on the island of Malta the rich diversity of the country is embodied by the capital city Valletta. Renessaince palaces and baroque cathedrals dominate the horizon while modern transport and communication systems indicate the country's economic infrastructure. Over 200 overseas businesses have offshore offices here. Tourism supports numerous 5-star hotels and spas both in the capital and throughout the three islands.

Film, television and commercial producers are drawn to Malta for the infrastructure and resources necessary for the demands of the industry. The visual beauty of Malta and year-round temperate climate - 12 shooting hours of daylight during the summer and 10 shooting hours during the mild winter also make filming here attractive to producers.

During the past four decades Malta has hosted such movies as "Troy", "The Count of Monte Cristo", "U-571", "White Squall", "Orca The Killer Whale", "Popeye", "Midnight Express" and TV commercials, "Beck's", "Coca-Cola", and "Chanel".

Also produced at MFS are a growing number of television series like "Roman Mysteries 1 & 2" and the award-winning docu-drama "Shipwreck" shown on the Discovery Channel and the acclaimed series "The Odyssey" starring Armand Assante, along with music videos such as the single "Congo" by the rock band Genesis.

Most productions filming in Malta are entitled to CASH INCENTIVES of up to 22% of the eligible expenditure. For further details on incentives visit the Malta Film Commission website at http://mfc.com.mt/page.asp?p=14253&l=1.
